Why Tyson? - How it All Started

James Tyson couldn’t shake the calling to start his own Christ-Centered construction company. As Senior Vice President at a national construction firm with yearly revenues reaching close to a billion dollars, the easy path would have been to ignore that call.

After 17 years of allegiance, he took a leap of faith to trust in the Lord and follow His call. In the Fall of 2017, Tyson & Associates Construction Company, Inc. (TACC) was established. Tyson was on his own and had been pushed past his comfort zone. He spent his first day behind a screen at his computer and with a cell phone.

He worked diligently to pursue potential job opportunities and still trust the Lord. Tysons’ longtime friend, Daniel Silvers, was a source of constant encouragement. Seeing the need for an office, Silvers made a generous offer to TACC, and in March of 2018, TACC began to rent office space within Silver’s SSD Storage in Ringgold, Ga.

James’ team grew quickly in 2018 as others felt called to join. Meredith Tyson was the first to take the leap of faith and joined as Missions Director. Soon after, Josh Hamel, Kevin Whitley, Butch Gilreath and Mark Brewington all committed as Project Superintendents. Stacey Street joined as the first Office Manager/Bookkeeper, Andy Parkinson as Business Development Manager and Caleb Hammontree as Vice President of Operations. By December, the team had 12 projects on the books. To see TACC reap what they sowed could only be a reflection of God’s grace and Tysons’ call.

Five years later, the company has grown to almost 30 employees and in January of 2023, TACC moved into their own 6,000 square foot office space located in Ringgold, Ga. Tysons’ leadership and willingness to go the extra mile by investing in his employees had a domino effect. Today, TACC is dedicated to its mission to show others the love of Christ through donating a significant portion of time and profits to those in need. The company will continue to carry out Tysons’ calling to show God’s love to others throughout the entirety of the company’s existence.
